Jesse and I registered for the North Face Endurance Challenge on Wednesday. The race has become something of a tradition, or as Jesse calls it, “the celebration.” After a year of training and racing, this beautiful race in our backyard is a fun way to cap off the year of endurance events. When faced with the prospect of joining me again for the 50K this year, the temptation was too much: Jesse registered for the 50-miler. In 2012, he raced the 50-miler in a crazy storm while I paced him for 25 muddy miles of it; last year he joined me for my first ultramarathon, the 50K.
While my hope this year is to simply improve on last year’s time (less time spent at the aid stations, more hill work), Jesse is flirting with the idea of using TNFEC as a training run for a prospective 100-mile race, Rocky Raccoon. While running 100 miles isn’t my cup of tea, I know Jesse will be able to do it, barring injury, especially with his second full ironman behind him and months of recovery time (and ample treats).
Happy Friday!
That’s awesome you guys! What a lovely way to celebrate all the training you’ve been doing. I love how you run together and keep each other on your respective toes. Best of luck with upping the ultra distances as well!
Thank you so much!
50-miler. Wow. 100-mile race incredible. I’m impressed!!!
Thanks! ๐
I love the wording of tradition as ‘celebration’. I too like to think of race day as a celebration of all the training leading up to the day. Enjoy!
Thanks! It is indeed a celebration – training is the tough part. ๐
Sounds very cool. Cannot imagine myself running 50 miles.. much less 100.. you guys are tough!
So awesome!!
If you do come to Texas for the RR100, holla!
Will do!
This year will be my first 50k. Any tips for training are most welcome! I will have two marathons completed before then, the second just 1.5 months before the ultra. Excited, nervous, and ready to see how my body will handle this!
You’ll do great! Which 50K are you running?
Thank you! That is very encouraging. ๐ I am running the Siskiyou Out and Back in July.
Awesome! Happy training!
