While running my typical five-mile route this morning, I thought about how lucky I am to live near two iconic bridges: the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. Now adorned with LED lights playing a show that lights up the Embarcadero, the Bay Bridge is no longer the Golden Gate’s ugly stepchild.
I ran to the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday during a seven-miler from our apartment. With a view of the bridge from our apartment (you can also see the eastern span of the Bay Bridge), it’s easy to take for granted the sights for which tourists pay thousands of dollars. The Golden Gate is arguably the most beloved landmark on the west coast, and for good reason: the sight of the international orange structure is awe-inspiring and breathtaking, whether you’re walking on it for the first time or driving over it is part of your daily commute.
You really are lucky. I spent 2 years of my life in SF and loved every minute. Still miss it. To me it’s the most beautiful city in the world.
Why’d you leave? I agree that it’s the most beautiful. 🙂
I was on a temporary visa, and I wanted to live in Israel for a while (which might end up being forever).
I miss San Francisco! It’s great to appreciate the beauty of where we live. I also live in a stunning part of the world, where people pay a lot of money to get to spend a holiday – I never let myself forget that!
Beautiful photos! I haven’t run over the Golden Gate Bridge in awhile, I think I’m over due for a visit 🙂
Very cool! Are you allowed to run across it? I’ve driven across it before but I can’t remember if there were running lanes like the Brooklyn Bridge.
You can run the Golden Gate, and the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge has bike and ped access!
Wow, so beautiful!
Ugh this makes me want to move to SF so much more now!!
You should! It’s perfect running weather year round.
After living in SB and having perfect weather year-round, I honestly don’t know if I could move back to a place with temperature extremes. I must live in SF soon, I keep telling my husband.
