While running my typical five-mile route this morning, I thought about how lucky I am to live near two iconic bridges: the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. Now adorned with LED lights playing a show that lights up the Embarcadero, the Bay Bridge is no longer the Golden Gate’s ugly stepchild.
I ran to the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday during a seven-miler from our apartment. With a view of the bridge from our apartment (you can also see the eastern span of the Bay Bridge), it’s easy to take for granted the sights for which tourists pay thousands of dollars. The Golden Gate is arguably the most beloved landmark on the west coast, and for good reason: the sight of the international orange structure is awe-inspiring and breathtaking, whether you’re walking on it for the first time or driving over it is part of your daily commute.
