Before Jesse broke his foot last Thursday, I was resigned to pulling out of the Way Too Cool 50K on March 7 in Cool, CA (near Sacramento). I’ve had some serious IT band pain since December’s North Face 50K, and although it’s much better, I thought it unwise to do the same type of race that landed me in the pain cave to begin with.
Now that Jesse’s out of commission for at least a month or two, neither of us will be racing Way Too Cool. We’re both bummed but hope we can race this epic-sounding trail ultra in the years to come. For now, the important thing is that Jesse’s foot heals well. Apart from Way Too Cool, Jesse and I aren’t registered for any races until May, a long time between races for us (Kaiser Half in February until Mountains 2 Beach Full/Half Marathon and Vineman Monte Rio Triathlon in May), but good for the healing process.
You both have great attitudes and will come back stronger than ever after this break. And *that’s* way too cool!!
You are so punny, Carolyn! Thank you for the words of encouragement! 😀
Love your attitude and May will be here before ya know it!! You guys are awesome!! XOXO
Thank you Kristin!!!! 😀
So impressed by your positive attitudes; we know you’ll both be back out there soon!
Thank you! You’re so sweet.
Yes I think some time for some healing will only make you stronger!!!! I hate missing races but there is always next year!!! 🙂
Your positivity is truly inspiring and I know you guys will be back and better than ever!! So much better to not stress and rush things. Missing races stinks, but this one will happen again and you’ll be there HEALTHY!
That’s a huge bummer for both of you but I am sure that the rest and recovery will do wonders for both of you!
Thanks Fallon! Hoping for a quick recovery.
I’m so sorry you’re both dealing with injury right now. On the plus side, I am very happy that both of you have time now to really focus on a good recovery. Good luck and happy healing!!
Thank you Charissa!
Oh no! What a bummer! I guess you guys really are just….way too cool….for that race.
SORRY I couldn’t resist. Anyway, it sucks having to miss races and wait so long for another, but I’m glad you are keeping your chins up. Maybe use the time off to give more attention to some of your interests outside running for a while, and then the next races will be here before you know it!
Sound advice, Hanna! And, you are SO punny. 🙂
Such a fantastic attitude! You’re both way too cool for that stinking 50k anyway. Rest does a body good. That’s a lesson I learned not too long ago. To May! 🙂
It’s a difficult lesson but definitely valuable!
These setbacks are always grueling in the moment, but it will really just be a flash before you are both out there again soon! Like April 12th, Taylor?? 🙂
Yes, just like April 12th. 😀
I hope you are both fully recovered soon. Like so many others, I really admire your attitudes about this. I think it is always best to learn to roll with running disappointments and know that there are many races to come. You guys are awesome!
You’re awesome, Sarah! It’s important to remember that these kinds of setbacks are just a drop in the bucket and not representative of the overall picture. 😀
Excited for M2B in May (I ran it twice and definitely love that race). Hope the recovery is going well!
Bummer! I’d love to come out for Way Too Cool one of these years – it looks like such an awesome race! Maybe we’ll cross paths there 🙂
