As some of you may have heard, there is a massive forest fire dubbed the “King” fire raging 12 miles outside of Tahoe City right now. As of this morning, the fire exploded to a whopping 71,000 acres – up from 18,500 yesterday. Unfortunately, unfavorable winds have carried plumes of smoke over the Sierra Nevadas and directly over Lake Tahoe. Frankly, air quality index readings aside, the air is nothing short of noxious right now. This could all change on a dime thanks to favorable winds between now and Sunday morning, but as of now, the realist in me knows that a modification or cancelation is not out of the question.
I snapped a few shots with my phone last night and today – none of these images are filtered. Fingers crossed for Sunday.
I’m optimistic the winds will take care of all this smoke before Sunday!! Just what you don’t want to have to worry about.
Oh, so sorry to hear!! My fingers are crossed!!
SHIT!!! I just read the article from Ironman.com!! I can’t believe it!! You can’t do anything about it! Just keep your fingers crossed!! It is still 3 days away. I hope that things get better!! Keep positive!!!!
Oh my. I hope the smoke clears for you. Take care of yourself out there.
If it all goes up in smoke, come ski there with us in March. No fires then.
fingers crossed! i hope you get to race! smoke looks a little ominous.
Best of luck! Hope it works out.
Yikes! Oh my goodness. Fingers crossed that things work out!
Fingers crossed for favorable winds!
