The last two weeks have been very busy for Taylor and I. In fact, the two week gap between our last post and today is the longest we’ve gone without blogging since we launched STM in summer 2013! Between holiday visitors, celebrations and vacation time, we’ve been spending a lot of time away from the screen. Here are some of the highlights:
- Taylor and I were both accepted into Way Too Cool 50k through the lottery. WTC is one of the most popular ultras in the country – it’s known for being a “fast” 50k, and part of the race is on the Western States trail – Cool indeed.
- I was named to Golden Gate Triathlon Club’s ambassador team for the 2015 season. I will have more to share about this soon, and I’m looking forward to representing one of the biggest and strongest triathlon clubs in the country next season.
- My family flew in for the holidays from New York and we enjoyed a sunny NorCal Christmas for the first time. Of course, no trip would be complete without sweating through Marin County, and we all summited Mt. Tam the day after Christmas.
- Taylor and I are running Brazen Racing’s New Year’s Day trail half at Lake Chabot tomorrow to ring in the 2015. We’re super excited that my aunt, uncle and cousins will be joining us all the way from New Zealand!
- On a somber note, we were victims of a break-in and all three of my bikes were stolen out of our garage while we were in Hawaii. I’ve since replaced my triathlon bike and am hoping to get a new road bike soon. If you’re reading this and don’t have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, stop reading and sign up for a policy now.
Although North Face 50 miler/50k put us down for a couple weeks, both Taylor and I are easing back into our regular routines ahead of our 2015 training cycles. 2014 was a healthy, happy and fruitful year – the final tally includes PRs in the 10k, 13.1, 26.2 (road and trail) 50k, 50 mile, and Half Ironman distances along with 4 trips to the podium. Thanks for reading this year and we’re looking forward to going bigger in 2015!
Hi guys – sorry about the break-in. That is a bummer. Hopefully all will be replaced. Good luck and God’s speed to you both in 2015. Fun being blog friends.
Thanks Pat – things can be replaced and all we can do is move on. Best of luck to you in 2015 and we’re looking forward to hearing about your adventures!

Thanks Joe – I’m looking forward to riding the Vineman course! Happy New Year – enjoy your races the next couple weekends and good luck with your IMSG training!
Happy New Year and thanks for sharing your journey this year…I have enjoyed following.
Huge bummer on the break-in. I know how violating it feels…my house was broken in a couple of years back when we were in the house! At 5AM my mom chased the kid out or he would have taken more.
Anyways…good luck tomorrow! What a great way to start the year!
Thanks for the kind words Jessie – Happy New Year to you as well!
That’s so scary – I can’t believe you guys were home! What’s your A-race next year? Have you built out your schedule? You had a great season – looking forward to reading about what 2015 brings!
I haven’t figured out my race schedule yet because I will be moving. So, it is all dependent on that.
I’m so sorry to hear about your break-in 😦 It’s nice to see that you guys are keeping your chins up and staying positive.
Congratulations on all the awesome things you achieved this year. I look forward to hearing about your successes in all these new races you mentioned. They sound like a blast!
Does your fam live in NZ? My dad was born and raised there. I’m a second generation kiwi 🙂
PS – cute pic of the two of you!!
Thanks very much Hanna – congrats on your progress this season and the sub-50 10k. Grandma’s Marathon looks like an awesome race and I’m excited to read about how the year pans out for you.
My uncle moved to NZ about 20 years ago; he got married, had kids, and lived happily ever after 🙂 I can’t say that I have kiwi blood, but I thoroughly enjoyed visiting them a few years back; have you been? Happy New Year!
That sucks about the bikes. I just renewed my insurance on mine for this year. Well worth it. What a great year you guys had! I’m excited to read about 2015. Have fun at the half tomorrow!
Good call Angie – it’s well worth it. I’m unfortunately out 4 bikes now and wish I did that sooner.
Thanks very much! You had a great season as well and I hope you enjoy some downtime during the winter. Have you ever run Squamish? That one’s on our bucket list one day. Happy New Year!
I havent run Squamish. Its beautiful there. I will check that out for sure!
Oh my gosh, so sorry to hear about the break-in!! That’s horrible!!! I loved the highlights!! What a great year y’all have had!! Wonderful!! Happy New Year’s Eve!! I wish you a great start to 2015! XOXO
It’s ok Kristin! Things can be replaced, and at least I’ll have a shiny new bike for next season 🙂 I hope you have a great New Year and enjoy some vegan treats!
Happy New Years guys!
Thanks Jamie! Happy New Year!
That’s quite a year, all those PRs. Nice work!
Thanks Todd! Good luck with your ultra training – I’ve been reading Hal Koerner’s new book and recommend it – check it out! http://www.amazon.com/Koerners-Field-Guide-Ultrarunning-Ultramarathon/dp/1937715221
Have a great new year. Look forward to reading all about your 2015 adventures.
Happy New Year to you as well! Best of luck with your 2015 races!
Ugh, sucks that you got broken into and got your bikes stolen.
Have a great 2015 and here’s to no more thieves.
Happy 2015 to you! Thanks for reading – go get that 1:45 and finish your first marathon next year!
You guys had such an incredible running (and cycling) year! I love reading about your many trail adventures and races. Good luck in the half tomorrow; it’s awesome you can do that stuff with family. Sorry also about the break-in, you now have me thinking about renters’ insurance.
Thanks Lily! We love your blog and I really enjoyed your picture recap of the year; great idea! Good luck with your marathon training – I registered Taylor for the M2B half for Christmas so we’ll see you there!
I am so sorry to hear about the break in, but the rest of your holidays seem to have been awesome! May the new year bring you all of your dreams. May you laugh and love, smile and hug…may you find new levels of strength. You’re awesome, Girl! Happy New Year!!!!
Thanks Stacy – it was a huge letdown but things are replaceable. I hope you have a Happy New Year and I wish you the best for 2015! Thanks for reading!
Sorry to hear about the breaks in and your loss. You are right. Bike thieves are the worst. I am planning to install a surveillance camera in my garage directed at my bikes.
It happens – especially in SF. I was actually planning to do the same – I’m even floating the idea of trying to get my hands on a “decoy” bike equipped with a GPS tracker to see where it ends up. For better or worse, all my future bikes will be stashed in my apartment where I can see them and fully insured.
Such an incredible year- congrats to you both! Sorry to hear about the break-in, that’s not a good a way to come home. Good luck at your races!
Thanks Fallon! Congrats on your 14 races in 2014 🙂 Best of luck this year!
Congratulations to you both on a really awesome year…and an awesome year running together! I am so sorry to hear about your break in. The first time I got my very own apartment I saved and got all new furniture and everything. A year in I came home and the whole place had been ransacked. I had insurance (thank goodness and it is super affordable). But it was less about the stuff and more about the violation. It is hard to get over. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2015 for both of you.
Thank you Sarah, and thanks very much for following along this year! I’m so glad that you had insurance for your break-in – I unfortunately did not, but I may be covered under credit card theft protection; I will know soon. I got a policy as soon as I bought my bike over the weekend and wish I had sooner. Best of luck to you in 2015 – can’t wait to see what this year brings for you!
Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
Thank you Jim – Happy New Year to you as well! Thank you for reading!
Congrats on such an fantastic year!! (except the break-ins) Can’t wait to see what you guys do in 2015!! Congrats on getting picked to be a GGTC ambassador! That will be awesome!!
Thanks Leslie!!! We got off to a good start yesterday at our trail half – more to come soon 🙂 I loved your year in review pics – great post! Are we doing Wildflower again this year?? I’m getting trigger happy 🙂
No Wildflower!! Not sure that I will ever do it again. But never say never!! 🙂 I am thinking Victoria this year. Excited for something different!!
You guys are absolutely adorable. 🙂 I’m so glad I found your blog! Congrats on a great year and I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for you!
Thanks very much 🙂 Congrats on a huge year – 1300+ miles is a huge accomplishment. I didn’t even crack 1k last season 🙂 Best of luck this year!
sorry about the break in, but awesome on everything else!
