It’s hard to believe that almost two months have passed since Ironman Lake Tahoe was cancelled. Taylor and I have been keeping busy since then, and our primary focus has been North Face Endurance Challenge on December 6th.
We recently completed the Mt Tam trail run this past Saturday – our last event before North Face, and I thought this would be a good time to share another installment of our “by the numbers” series. The race was a huge success – Taylor podiumed her age group at the 30k distance, my sister flew in from Montreal and ran the 10k, and I logged a big PR on a hilly course. Without further ado, here’s my recent training in a nutshell:
3: number of marathon distance+ runs I’ve completed in the past 6 weeks (Morgan Hill Marathon, Skyline to Sea Trail Marathon, Mt Tam 50k)
3: number of PRs set in that time (road marathon, trail marathon, and 50k)
46: minutes shaved off my marathon PR to date (4:15 -> 3:29)
64: minutes shaved off my 50k PR at Mt Tam this past weekend (7:03 -> 5:59)
0: shot of me going to Kona next year; I didn’t get selected through the IMLT lottery
0: Ironman-distances races on the calendar next year; final answer
4: days Taylor and I will be spending in Kauai to celebrate the end of race season next month
3:20: my goal for Mountains2Beach marathon in May 2015
50: miles of racing left this season
That’s some pretty exciting data right there. Go you!! I’m excited to see what your future holds!
Thanks very much! I’m glad to see you’re staying healthy!
You’ve had a very busy and very successful season! Congrats! And best of luck in your big one coming up 🙂 My big race is the same day so there will be lots of celebration to go around!
Thanks – it’s not over yet! Are you gunning for a sub-4 on the 6th??
YES! I’m really hoping to pull off a sub-4. Based on my recent long runs, it could happen!
Go for it! Just focus on keeping a solid, even pace and you’ll do great.
Wow, huge improvements! Congrats, Jesse! And congrats to Taylor on the podium! You two are so inspiring and I love that you motivate each other. Will you teach me how to run faster!?
Thanks Carolyn! It’s been a great season and I’m happy that the hard work leading up to IMLT manifested in other ways.
Run faster? You’ve already qualified for Kona; is that not enough?? Sure – start here: http://singletrackedmind.com/2014/01/30/running-101-how-to-run-faster/ Shameless plugs aside, track next year will be awesome. We interviewing some pretty exciting coaches and I’m confident that we’ll have a very solid program in place regardless of who gets the final nod. Let us know if you ever want to join for speed work/trail work post IM!
Love the post, thanks for the great tips! Yes, I hope to make it to track more often to work on form and speed.
Thanks! I think the speed workouts – especially for running and swimming, are the first to go in an IM training plan and they can’t be overlooked if you want to get faster. Looking forward to tri training next year!
Kauai!! That sounds like fun! Good luck with the rest of your training, then enjoy the time off!
Thanks Jessie! We are stoked! I’m glad to see you’re taking some time off of running after feeling run down – no pun intended. It will pay off big-time next year!
Congrats on your PR !!
Thank you!
64 minutes! Holy crap, that’s an awesome improvement! Congrats!!! I love Kauai- have fun!!
Thank you! What were some of your highlights?? We’re staying on Poipu Beach and will have a car – any tips would be appreciated!
Its been so long but Hanalei beach / bay was amazing. Opposite end of the island from Poipi but the worth the drive. Princeville was a little hoity toity but fun too, that’s where we stayed. And check out Waimea Canyon.
Those are some impressive numbers! Congrats! I hope you both have a wonderful vacation to celebrate the end of your seasons….you deserve it!!
Thank you! We are really looking forward to some time off!
Just killing it! Awesome work!
Thanks very much!
YES!! Love the stats!!! I can’t believe that you didn’t get picked for Kona!! Well hopefully you get picked for Berlin and you can set your big goals there!!! 🙂
Nice job on all the PR’s!! You are so ready for the North Face Challenge!! I am glad that you guys are going on vacation to celebrate!! Jealous you are going to Kauai!!
