Earlier this month, Jesse and I stopped by the Bay Club to check out the facilities on a three-day guest pass. After the tour, Jesse was sold: he had been jonesing to quit Equinox and move on to a better gym. The Bay Club is more of a sports club than a gym, with perks like monthly happy hours, a rooftop deck and tennis courts, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a great pool, and a wide variety of classes. Jesse and I have been swimming several times a week, with my recent swim sessions my first time in the pool since Wildflower. The Bay Club has a warm cool (for me) and a cool pool (for Jesse), and relaxing in the jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna post-workout feels like a spa retreat. Another great perk is that the Bay Club has never been overly crowded, despite my going at a popular, pre-work time. When classes aren’t in session, you can work out or stretch in any of the many group fitness and yoga rooms.
This morning, I took an old favorite class, BodyPump. Until last week, I hadn’t taken BodyPump since I was a member at 24 Hour Fitness! I love that this Bay Club location is right on the Embarcadero, about a mile away from our apartment, so I was able to squeeze in a three-mile run before taking the class.
While my guest pass runs out at the end of the month, I will be sure to take advantage of the club’s amenities, and I have a feeling I’ll be signing up for good.
This weekend class for a short eight-mile run with Jamie and a yoga class while Jesse bikes and enjoys an Aquatic Park swim and run with Golden Gate Triathlon Club. Have a great weekend!
I can’t wait until my eight-mile runs are considered “short”! I need to try this Body Pump class, I hear so much about it.
Haha, marathon training makes your perception of distance pretty sick and twisted. BodyPump is AWESOME! I hope you get to try it out!
It’s awesome! And yes, marathon training really warps your concept of long distance runs!
I am so jealous of everyone’s gyms lately! That sounds awesome. Have a god run!
Thanks! 🙂
That’s fantastic! I just can’t motivate myself to go to the gym, and I’m so in awe of people who can keep it up. Having said that, I love to go for a swim, especially followed by sauna or a steam room! 😀
Yes! Such simple luxuries. 🙂
There is nothing better than finding a good gym. I still have yet to find the one that calls to me here in Chicago. Your new one sounds like a perfect place to go. Happy 8 miler.
I hope you find on in Chicago!
I’ve heard so much about body pump–I’m intrigued!!
it’s awesome. You should try it!
